Quaint little cafe with tasty sandwiches and fresh chowder. Great prices and quick services. I used to really enjoy the chowder house, but we have stopped visiting after getting really sick from one of their soups. We tried going again today to give it another shot but the service was very poor. The waitress had friends eating there so she spent more time talking with them then checking on customers. We werent brought some of our order and when we asked about it they just shrugged it off without even the smallest apology. Overall not a great experience today. My friends like this place but I just had the worst experience. I got a teriyaki chicken sandwich which was just not edible. The chicken breast seemed to be on defrost for too long in their microwave and gave it a terrible chewy texture similar to that of a dog's chew toy. It looked and tasted like a dirty sponge. I didn't intend to make a big deal out of it and rather just pay for my food and leave but an older lady was unnecessarily rude when paying my bill and required the owner to step in to tell her to just not charge me for the sandwich and rather just my drink. Looking at my credit card statement it turns out they had charged me for the sandwich as if I had tipped it's cost into the bill. I can't imagine that was done in error. I will not be returning and will recommend everyone I know to avoid it. There are better places to eat in Fairbanks. FAST. Service. Ate lunch here at 12:30, it was SO busy. The waitress took my drink order while I was choosing a table. I got my food in 7 minutes. Soup of the day and quiche of the day with a side of avocado. No the were very nice. The soup was not to got hot and the quiche was very flakey yet the egg was fluffy. This is a local's lunch spot. The atmosphere is so nice, and the food is even better. The New England Clam Chowder was soooo yummy!
