I had a terribly broken (crushed) left index finger. The two largest bones in that finger were in 6 parts each, one dozen puzzle pieces. I was extremely blessed to have broken this finger on a day when Dr Johnson was the on call Orthopedic Surgeon for the Fairbanks Memorial Hospital ER. I have broken several bones in my life, and have treated most of them myself. This was an ugly break, and I truly appreciate his expert knowledge and skill. I greatly appreciated his willingness to explain the prognosis and all options and expectations regarding treatment and rehabilitation. I am left handed, so maximizing mobility and functionality were paramount to me. I'm extremely pleased with the results. I have some trouble with it at -40°, but I have troubles with other past injuries at those temperatures as well. Many heartfelt thanks to Dr Johnson and his expert x-ray technicians in his office. Broken bones can be painful, and x-rays often add to that pain. His staff was extremely patient and understanding of the difficulty and pain generally associated with positioning (contorting) of the affected area in attempting to strike the proper pose for the pictures. Everyone made the entire process as painless and comfortable as posible. Thanks again to all. Broke my knee ... bad fractured tibia plateau and a few smaller fractures. Originally went to Interior Medical here in Delta (they ROCK by the way) they advised me to go to the fairbanks ER . I did. had xrays and was told surgery wasn't nessesary and sent home with a prescription and a follow up contact for Sportsmedicine of Fbks. (NEVER GO THERE) .... anyways, wasn't happy with the "treatment", or lack there of... there so contacted Dr Johnsons office ... THEY ARE AMAZING! Found out that the torture device I was prescribed by the other place ... was going to pretty much ruin my leg by immobilizing it. Dr. J said I should have had surgery immediately, I wish he had been the doctor on call at the ER that day. Thank God for Dr. J. I'm walking and no longer in a wheel chair. Just nearly 6 months after the fall, I'm dancing and karaoking with my kid. I really don't like posting negative reviews, but I had a really bad experience, and don't want anyone else to have to go through the same thing. I learned my lesson by going to Dr. Johnson, that if you have a broken toe, or any other problem with the foot, see a Podiatrist, not an Orthopedic Surgeon. Dr. Johnson told me that by looking at my X-Ray, my toe should be healed and he didn't know why my toe wouldn't bend at the joint where it broke. I asked him if there could be any damage to the tendons, and he said "the X-Ray didn't show anything wrong with the tendons." Even with my limited medical experience (EMT-B), I knew he was downplaying my injury, for whatever reason, because tendon damage does not show up on an X-Ray. I asked him about Physical Therapy, and he condescendingly told me PT wouldn't be necessary, and to just start moving the toe on my own (even though any kind of movement caused excruciating pain that felt like the bone was breaking all over again). I followed up with a Podiatrist in AZ (thankfully). He gave me a walking boot, told me the bone was still broken, gave me an anti-inflammatory shot, prescribed a topical cream, and referred me to PT. The Physical Therapist found something wrong with one of my tendons, and I am now, a 5 weeks later, STILL working on getting back the mobility of my toe (3 months post injury). If I had listened to Dr Johnson, I am pretty sure my toe would never be able to bend again. I drove 3 hours in the early morning from Denali to get to Fairbanks on time for my appt. He was 30 minutes late in seeing me, and then only spoke with me for about 5 minutes after my X-Ray, only to give me the impression that I didn't need to be there at all, and my toe would be fine. I'm really sorry to say that I left feeling belittled, and did not feel I was cared for at all. I was referred to this office on a weekend, I called Monday morning the doctor actually had surgery all afternoon but they still made time for me even though the office really didnt have the time, I ended up seeing the p,a, tommy and she was absolutly wonderful, I have never came across an office that will give you everything but the shirt off their back to make sure you are okay. They gave me excellent treatment, made a treatment plan and gave me a follow-up appointment, I can not say enough about their kindness. I would pay no attention to that other review that is written she was obviously looking for something from this office and did not get it because this office is kind, caring and go out of their way to make sure that you are okay, I would recommend this office over and over and cant say enough good stuff about them. Thankyou, p,a, Tommy
