The array of produce can definitely stimulate the average shopper and the diversity allows something for everyone...to a mild degree. The seafood selection is poor and unhealthy, especially only being 6 hours from the coast. The butcher department does not offer meats that are hormone, antibiotic, cruelty free raised in vegetarian diets. Only a large selection of board head products with very little competitors which tells me that Boars head bought and paid for their full frontal advertising. Basically you don’t know what the hell you are eating when you purchase this meat. I had a thorough discussion with the butcher and he couldn’t answer any of my questions but did point me to the package hormone free meats. There is a small selection to take note of. I don’t feel the establishment is linking up with local butchers and fisherman of the surrounding area including the coastal towns. If the establishment did so, prices would be less expensive making the purchasing of healthy food a less traumatic experience....and that’s what it is. $400 spent for a family of two to eat healthy. I believe such establishments owe it to their communities to fight for fair and affordable pricing. Creative management allows for white labels such as Whole Foods brand ‘375 degrees’ that allows for affordable pricing of healthy, non gmo, hormone free food. Fred’s should be fighting for the people that support its business and use creative business measures to give back to the community. Always a pleasure to shop at this store regardless of how busy they are. Shelves are always blocked, faced and organized. Great selection of items although typically priced higher than competitors. If their slew of monthly discount and card benefits and coupons are used properly it will greatly reduce your grocery costs! Thank you to Terry! He has long blonde hair, glasses, and is reasonably tall. Thanks again man! You made our day (: This is my preferred store in all of Fairbanks. Items are rarely out of stock and they carry a great deal. The staff is usually willing to go above and beyond with great customer service and cheerfulness. Their return policy is painless. Their customer service department is good. Their pharmacy is good, though you usually have to wait about 20 minutes, but if you call in your prescription or ask for it before you shop, there is no problem. The produce is good quality. The meat department has a good selection and will even custom cut meat for you. All in all, a great shopping experience. Excellent store. The staff seems to care about keeping things stocked and orderly. Easy place to shop. The parking lot can be a bit tight sometimes though.
