What a great place; quirky, fun, and a very friendly, helpful staff make this a large step above your average chain hotel. Unlike the sterile lobbies of typical hotels, Pike’s is huge, and is actually intended to be used. A large fireplace, examples of local fauna, and fresh cookies & coffee at all hours make it a refreshing place to meet friends. The rooms are large, well maintained, and most of all, clean and comfortable. The river view is strongly recommended at any time of year (see attached picture). The breakfast is free, and good, with lots of choices, although having a protein, such as bacon, or sausage would be a good addition, the lack isn’t a deal-breaker. Overall, the staff is the best part of the place. In all of our stays here they have gone over and above what you’d expect from other, similar hotels. The reason for the great staff isn’t hard to find, watching the owner walk around the place, complimenting the staff on jobs well done definitely sets the tone. Their Military discount is excellent, and helps make our typical extended stays a bit easier. Pike’s is the only place we consider when we travel to Fairbanks. Hotel has the feel of a well worn couch. Certainly not fancy or modern, but it's close to the airport and has a commercial "wilderness lodge" feel to it. I'm not as big a fan of the tourist - trap type wall advertising inside the hotel, but that's a minor gripe. Free breakfast is solid, beds are comfortable. Good enough for a work trip or short stay while in Fairbanks. I've stayed at this hotel twice and both times, I requested an outside log cabin, as pictured below. The cabins are nicely furnished and include a mini kitchenette with a small bar sink, fridge and micro wave, as well as air conditioning. I had breakfast at the hotel's breakfast buffet which is not included. The breakfast buffet has a large selection of all you can eat food. The hotel is situated next to the Chena river, pictured below. Staff is very friendly and there's plenty of parking on site. Outdated rooms. The cabins are better. Food was better but is going downhill fast. I've been here all summer 2017. My first visit in the spring was good. But last night, my last night was poor. And food prices went up since spring. It's more expensive for rooms if equal value. I'm not a resident but my resident friends say they don't get a break on the prices. We all believe they should-- they live here year round and shouldn't get gouged. I won't be returning to pikes next year when I come to Alaska. Good luck and mind your wallet. Was spending the night at Pike’s for a special occasion. Upon checking in 11/04/17 the desk confirmed out late checkout of 1pm. Monday morning the staff asked us 3 times to leave before 1pm. Turned a relaxing stay into a stressed out morning. Will consider other local accommodations in the further.
