If I could give negative stars I would! That said, the hotel staff were nice and accommodating. In my opinion this is a transient hotel. I would not bring a family here. Certainly not one with small children. We left within a half hour of checking in. Once we entered our room it was over 100 degrees, there was an additional box fan for us to use. The other reviews about the smell and condition are correct. I don't know what could possibly have been renovated 9 months ago. Many tiles in lobby are missing grout and the fruit loop breakfast mentioned by another reviewer was still in evidence on the floor. I could go on and on but I think you get the point. Low priced hotel but the quality was below what was expected, all things considered. We checked in and the first room assigned hadn't been cleaned from the previous guest. There was a newspaper in the room that was more than a week old, though who knows if that was relevant or not. The second room had been made up but to say it was cleaned was an exaggeration. It was a sunny day and being on that side of the building, it was warm so we turned on the air. After a bit, the room unit didn't seem to be doing very well in cooling the room so I looked at it and it seemed to be iced up. On closer inspection, I realized that the filter was filthy. I took off the cover and was shocked at the amount of dust and dirt built up. I took the filter to the tub and washed it (reusable design without cardboard frame), at least a cup full of grime came out of it. Went to make a cup of coffee and the filter and coffee from the previous guest were still in the maker. Being an old building, the floors are wood and not concrete like most newer construction. The guest upstairs paced the floors all night and the squeaks and creaks followed him around the whole time. Furnishings were very worn and in need of replacement. Complimentary breakfast was a joke - 2 kinds of cereal were offered, as were 2 juices. There was also biscuits and gravy, and the gravy looked like slightly thickened milk, not standard biscuit gravy (though I don't eat this regardless of the appearance). Even at the price paid, it was a place I would not return to ever again. Only reason this hotel gets a star at all is the front desk staff during check in. Beyond that it's a basic hotel with a/c that doesn't work. Our room was at a blazing 85-90 when it was 70 outside. A/C did nothing but created a white noise. Ridiculous. This is ALASKA. It should not be this hot in a hotel room. We called down to the front desk and their answer was oh well sorry. Not a try this or try that. And didn't come to look at the unit either. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone. It's not worth the money to be in a room that's hotter than it is outside. Walking distance it is not from downtown. It's adequate but the breakfast was not up to par. Staff is nice. Location not the best. A lot of road work around.
