An interesting stop on our way up to the Arctic circle. There are signs explaining what you're looking at, namely the Alyeska Pipeline and 2 cleaning pigs, old and new. No admission charge, lots of parking right by the highway and never crowded. Its a short drive from Fairbanks so easy enough to visit. I guess its just a pipe, but theres a lot of information about it with statistics. Its really an amazing enginneering feat. We followed it further in our travels on the way down to Valdez so ended seeing it often on our drive. Its free too. Loved it!!! The lady in the visitor center went above and beyond her job. She promised to mail my daughter a ranger badge and actually mailed it to her. We were so excited and thrilled to see how dedicated she was to her job. Thank you! You made her day! Great spot to see how this pipeline works and see how it protects and preserves the permafrost. Also referred to as the Alyeska Pipeline Visitor Center, because the company the built and maintains the pipeline is called Alyeska. The line is above ground and this gives people the chance to see many of the engineering aspects of the pipeline. A short drive from town and definitely interesting. This is worth the trip.
