Thrifty Car Rental in Fairbanks Alaska charged me over $2,200 for preexisting damage to a car I rented from them. Poor early morning light and layers of snow and ice on the car prevented me from seeing the scratches on the bumper. What I did see was white yogurt like residue on the driver's seat and coffee residue on the passenger door. I noticed the scratches on the rear bumper the next day when it was bright and sunny and the snow and ice melted off the car. There was thin dirt residue over the entire car including the scratches which proves the scratches existed before I received the car. When I dropped off the car that evening I notified the Thrifty agent of the scratches I discovered. I was told that I most likely wouldn't have a claim filed against me but management makes that decision. The agent also told me that the new staff member who checked in the car prior to me renting it was problematic. It was obvious the new guy who checked in the car hadn't done his job correctly due to the spilled yogurt and coffee inside the car. Ten days later I get a call from a collections company stating Thrifty car rental filed a damage claim against me. A few days later I get the claims paperwork in the mail which states I owe Thrifty car rental $2,209.19 in damages. I submitted a dispute letter stating that I did not cause the damage to the car and emphasized the poor condition of the car when I received it. A condition indicating the vehicle was not properly check in. I also stated how there were other damages (two door dings) on the car that weren’t on the check in sheet and how I could not find the preexisting damage the check in sheet described. After reading my dispute letter Thrifty still claims that I am liable for the damage. Thrifty car rental is the worse company I never meet before. The do not have insurance for customers. They have worse customer service. If you don't want have any trouble by car. Please don't choice Thirfty. they said hi and bye go here :) :) :)
